about

This is a mash-up arrangement of Losing My Religion by R.E.M. and Pumped Up Kicks by Foster the People. Pumped Up Kicks, with it’s enigmatic bassline, sits at the centre of the mash-up, its chorus melody only stated briefly as an exit line into a dream segment that takes us back to the R.E.M. tune. The Pumped Up Kicks section is relatively short but it is central to the combined meaning of the mash-up. The R.E.M. statement about ‘losing their religion’ over the state of things is increasingly poignant at a time when mass killings in schools is affecting the children of the people who grew up with this tune. Mash-up composition by Katheryn Petersen with extemporaneous solo by Mike WT Allen.
